And that's why I tagged someone who would know lol. I wasn't sure and wanted to clear it up.
But, I will say from experience that I have used a 96 core/case in an 03 S-10 with the 298mm hardware. Granted this was in 2014 or 2015. So it is possible that it had the drivetrain changed at some point and may have possibly had an older engine and trans swapped in it. Or maybe it was the last of that style before the total change over. That is the main reason I wasn't sure of when the 298/300mm design break was.
