Just swapped motor and partially rebuilt transmission and will only drive in reverse

can you at least get a manual 2 or 3rd gear as well?

if it works in manual 2 or 3 like he said the sprag is broken
if reverse only works no matter what you do then The reaction carrier assembly (rear 4 pinion planetary) is cracked and the splines in the center are gone where the sun gear locks in to it. either way you gotta pull it apart again

I've pulled valve body to look at check balls. They're all good. Solenoids maybe?

Dumb question but is the Shift linkage adjusted properly...

Yes. Shifter is moving properly. Even moved it into 1st by hand and still get no engagement. Motor sounds like it wants to stall

is there any code hidden or otherwise that shows up on a scanner? is your gear indicator on when all this happens?

Gear indicator is working. I don't have a scanner

then you tranny should be getting power then. you may want to get access to a scanner before continuing.
