New here with a few questions, recently scored a 2006 Tahoe with the 5.3 for $800, it needs a transmission (4l60e) I have a transmission from a 2001 GMC Yukon XL with the 6.0 sitting in my garage (4l65e?). Will these swap easily or should I just go buy a trans from the junkyard? From what I have read the valve body is different and it has an additional input speed sensor as well. If someone could point me in the right direction that would be great. Thanks in advance!!

There is not much of a difference between the two, you can as the best solution, take out the bits from the 01 and transfer them into the 06 tranny. This would make the rebuild a 65e. You would still keep the old one and take the best parts. While its down, you can also replace your Sunshell, with one called the 'beast' replace all steels and clutches as well as tourque converter. Unless you were going to rebuild a Junkyard tranny I would never buy one to swap out. There is too much work involved to remove if there were problems. I also for the life of me never could understand why GM went with the 4l60e instead of the 80 for these vehicles. Good luck

I don’t plan on keeping the vehicle for too long so if it makes it a little while longer I could care less, the 3-4 clutch is toast, theoretically I could just swap the input drum in and keep my fingers crossed correct? Or can I swap the valve body from the 06 60e into the 01 65e? In the perfect situation I’d put the 65e in the Tahoe but it sounds like it won’t work

You know that is not a bad idea, after all you have nothing to lose by installing the 3-4 clutch. Its too bad that the 06 uses a different communication system from the 01.

So after pulling the trans out of my 06 Tahoe I noticed the tag on it indicated it is a 2005 4l60e instead of a 2006 as you would think, does this mean my 2001 4l65e transmission will work? From what I know they should be the same because they changed in 2006. If anyone has any information that can help me out please chime in.
