That's right, avoid the 700r4 for your rig, it's still a good tranny but it would be downgrading. I use a 92 700r4 in my 85 K5, and that is an upgrade for it. In your case, not so much. Follow livingEZ's advice...

Problem is where I live and my work schedule. I don't have a tranny shop in town closest one is 2 hrs away and I cant afford the 80 sumide dollars round trip 2 + down time its killing me. I was hopeing for a better way looks like I might tackle this rebuild myself
