I found a guy here locally selling the 80e and 6.0 out of a 2500 and was curious myself of just swapping both in at the same time. I know the motor everything just swaps over and im thinking the trans does too

Well that article outlined my point of the trans being different lengths.. as i plan to do a 5.9 cummins with adapter plate and the 4l80 and 3/4 rear end in a couple years.. well basically because a 500hp+ diesel tahoe.. yea be sick and if i have the parts why the heck not..

not if i have a 4.8 the drive loss i dont think would be worth it to spin the deeper gears in thte 4l80.. if it was me i wouldn't waist the money on the 4.8 with a 4l80. but if you are planning to swap a 6L then i would do both at the same time so you do all your mounts and fab work at once and save time.. do it all at once and call it a day.

But overall the 4l60 to 4l80 is not a huge fab job.. with a good welder and materials and some skill a good weekend project..

I'm about to pursue this very swap or just pay a homie's shop to do it for me. Like others have said it isn't a big deal: input shaft on tcase, driveshaft mods, some tuning, etc. but they aren't so bad. I'm a firm believer in overbuilding things so you don't have to buy stuff twice.
