I have a 98 yukon with a push button type of four wheel drive. Sometimes when I push the 4x4 button to activate the four wheel drive it wont go into four wheel drive and the light will blink. Other times I can push the button and it will work just fine. Any ideas, the actuator on the differential or the one on the transfer case.

I have a 96 that wouldn't go in 4wd at all ended up replacing everything from the switch back including the t case switch, wiring harness and actuator. I would start at the actuator because its the most common and cheapest.

unknown at this time.
are you saying it the tcase wont shift or the tcase will shift but the front axle does not lock to the rest of the system. Also do you have a multimeter? You can turn ignition on without starting vehicle and activate 4wd what do you hear when you do so? front actuator, tcase shift motor or other noises? and how do those lights react with those noises.

I just asked this same question in a thread right above this one.....I have a 96 with a the push button system. I push 4HI and I hear an actuater engage but the light just blinks and it feels like it stays in 2 wheel. However, when I go into 4 Low it engages and the light stays solid. I've yet to appraoch this problem because I have quite the laundry list of other things to address and I live in the South where 4 wheel isn't a huge necessity, but I was wondering the same thing.
