4.8 , 5.3 , 5.7 LS1 , 6.0 are all Gen III Small blocks.

They all can share camshafts, heads, intakemanifolds, exhaust, and accessories ( alt, power steering ect.)

But they all have different bore sizes to get their cubic inches ( or litres)

The LS1 has an aluminum block.

The others are usually Cast iron blocks, but there are all aluminun 5.3's out there.

You can put a nice cam and valve springs in a 5.3 and get over 400 horses.

Hope this helps.

I think 5.3's are underappreciated, They are great engines and can be had inexpensivley. They run sooo much better than the older 350's.

What cam and valve springs should I look for for my 5.3?

Yea, and I bet they are not in Tahoes or Suburbans... They are in CARS or light ass RCSBs or something.. Think about it, its physics. Ive had all build from diff shops and had top parts installed. The 60/65e is suited for a light weight application. Put some weight behind it like a Suburban or Tahoe, and then put some power to it, like a SC 5.3 or a built 408 and see how long a built 65e last in that application where tq itself output tear itself up....

TQ managment is the ONLY WAY a 65e tranny will survive a heavy vehicle. A 80e will get the job done with 0 tq managment needed. A realy truck tranny. You can pick one up from the local junkyard for 300$ if that, ready for 600hp with a shiftkit installed. Not a 60e, they can be found with broken sunshells.

Main reason GM developed TQ Mangment was to solve this very problem... And make the 65E workable...

All depends on what you plan on doing with your build, as well as your desires from the system.
