6.0 swap

Anything from ~'00 to '06 (Gen3) will be a direct swap if you keep your intake manifold or at least the throttle body since they switched from cable-driven to Drive-By-Wire (DBW) throttle body in late '02 (technically '03 models). Gen4 can be made to work with a little wiring and a $300 58x to 24x crank sensor signal converter. I'd advise against dealing with all that, though. Not worth it unless you find a deal on a Gen4 too good to pass. Mounts, engine-driven accessories, etc. all swap.

Put an 05 LQ4 in my 03. Used my 03 stock upper intake due to the fuel return setup being different then my 03's--iirc. Pretty much pnp.

Any LQ9 and any aluminum head LQ4, basically 01-07 (Gen 3), as mentioned above you could use a newer Gen 4 6.0 but it would not be plug and play, you would most likley have to delete AFM and/or VVT, the cam position sensor is in a different place, knock sensors are in a different place and 58x reluctor vs 24x reluctor

Tony how do you like that lq4. Is worth it for the swap. Did you keep it stock. Why not go lq9. I've been wanting to do this but here in dfw prices are stupid high for any 6.0

I know a guy up that way and he's always seeing deals on some local public auction site. They have service vans with the 6.0 going for around $3,000 for the low-mileage ones. These vans are both stripped out cargo vans for servicing companies (plumbing, electrical, etc.) or full interior models used by churches, small private schools/daycares, etc. His idea is to buy one, pull the motor and either part out and/or scrap the rest or, if it's nice enough, swap his 5.3 into it and sell the van as a fully functional vehicle.

I can't find a 6.0 for less than 1500. I've only seen one at that price. The rest are higher

If it's a (confirmable) low-mileage/unmolested one, that's probably fair. Might could step over into LA in the Shreveport area for a possible deal.

Yea it's an lq4 with 150,000 k on it. Now way I'm paying that much for it when I can swap a cam in my 5.3 for half of that. Any lq9 I have found is over that.

True story.

LQ9s are like the LS1. Pricey when you can spend less than the difference on a more common engine and have the same or more power. The LQ9 has a few upgraded build qualities, though. It all depends on what you want. More cubes make more efficient power and lesser cubes with a cam can make the same numbers, but will have a different power curve. Boost will fix and supersede all of that!
