Any update here? I've got a very high mileage (457K) '02 Yukon XL that I'm planning to do the very same thing to in the future once the stock drivetrain decides to quit.

Getting the tranny gone through right now and just for precautionary measures changing some gaskets. Has a minor leak on the Vally pan. Changing the knock sensors cause I don't want to deal with that later. A few more weeks and I will be starting the swap. 475km or miles? Wow on a 5.3l. ?

Sure. Here are a few.. got ARP head studs, Vinci truck cam, billed timing gear and BTR double valve springs, trunion upgrade..dynatech headers with catted mids..project out of control lol. .

Its miles - as far as I know, no major repairs have ever been done. 5.3 with the original 4L60 as well. Replaced the AC compressor way back in 2005, and recently a crankshaft position sensor, but that's it. My Father-in-Law is in sales, and it was nothing for him to drive 300 miles a day on his routes. I really try to baby it now - I want 500K out of it before it dies - we'll see if I get there.

What is your plan after I'd gets to 500 ?
By 500 she has done her dues! Have some fun with it now. Don't have to go crazy but 6.0 and freshen up everything else and away you go. Mine is a baby at 159,000 miles lol. Compared to yours.

Most likely I'll go the 6.0/4L80 combo, rebuild front and rear diffs with 4.10 gears and air lockers (don't do much highway driving) and rebuild the transfer case. Basically everything will need to be replaced front to back. it would probably be cheaper to buy a new truck, but I don't use this for everyday travel, and I can build it like I want.
