Not talking about ‘cleaning the engine with premium’
Neither am I- is anyone?
...a higher compression engine, like the ls, benefits from higher octane.
Si.
My reply wasn't a personal attack on you or anyone. I just took the opportunity, since it was mentioned, to spill some info cuz I know this is such a widespread misconception.
Because higher octane gas burns slower, it is more resistant to knock when subjected to higher RPM and cylinder pressures. Compression ratios also factor into cylinder pressures. Higher ratios cause highercylinder pressures and therefore cause the engine to be more susceptible to pre-detonation or knock.
This excerpt from Hemmings Motor News pretty much echoes what I said. Slightly more technical, but same principles expressed.
