i have heard of the cummins swap before but never really looked into it. and 99TanHoe... if i wasnt 16 and had alot more money id deffinatly look into the Ram jet 502. im just trying to get some ideas on what i could do to the truck to get power and gas mileage. an engine swap prob wont happen for a while but if i keep the truck its a definite possibility. and what about the straight axle? how hard is it to put a straight axle under the front?

Don't worry if you dream and plan long enough, eventually the money to spend on toys will come. Save as much as you can when you get paid, don't go in debt and you'll be surprised how quick the cash will accumulate.

As for me, the Ram jet is more motor than I need. The most I'll probably go is 383 like Bowtie and some others have done.

If your dead set on a diesel swap, I'd do either a 12 valve or 24 valve Cummins swap before a Duramax swap. It's been done in a Suburban 2500 before. Another option for a motor transplant which is less extensive is a LSX or GenIII Vortec swap.

A sfa is do able for some. But it takes some preparation, knowledge, tools and fabrication skills to do "correctly". It can get expensive, and very complicated. My advice, is if this is a daily driver, than I would not attempt it in unless you have done a ton of fabrication and extensive automotive work. Remember, you are basically cutting out your factory front drivetrain, steering and suspension for a solid front axle with new steering and suspension components.

If a motor goes boom, you just are left stranded. Big deal, call a wrecker and your fine. If an axle slips out, or you lose steering at highway speeds...You get my point.

I don't know what your knowledge and fabrication skills are. But this is my advice for most. Don't take it as an insult either, if you can handle a SAS then I'm all for it man. And I'd be willing to help along the way with information or whatever
