On the heater hoses there is a vac controlled valve. Where does that vac line go to. Going to flush the coolant system this weekend. I'm going to remove the valve to do the flush, need to know where vac line goes when I put the valve back in.

The vacuum line comes from the control head in the dash to open and close the valve so hot coolant gets to the heater core for the fan to blow across for the heat. Just plug back in the same way it came apart. Are you saying the hose to plug in to the valve is not there?

The vac line is connected to the valve, just need to know where the other end of the vac line goes. Was already unhooked when I bought the Tahoe. I don't see where it would go through the firewall.

Well all I can say is that it either attaches to another junction under the hood or does go thru the firewall somewhere. Last time I owned a 96 Tahoe was in 1997. Been a while since seen where exactly. Try to google a pic of it. Google the valve and then I bet one of the sites that load is full of pics. I see that on bing all the time.

Be careful I went to check the heater hoses on that on my 99 Tahoe because it had a intermittent drip (seemed like it would only drip when I was under it) and the plastic fell apart in my hands. I was lucky and had already ordered a replacement in case the unit was the problem.

Yep, once those valves get old enough, plastic, and have been super heated and then cooled down so many times, they crumble in your hands when try to remove or even just inspect.

The coolant flush now on hold. Vac lines broke, nipple on EGR valve solenoid broke, vac line from solenoid to the TBI broke. Sunday check engine light came on, code 22. replaced the TPS. Was good til last night. check engine light back on code 32. pulled EGR and cleaned. Plastic and 240,000 miles not agreeing. Can the hard plastic lines be replaced with hoses?

Yes they can use the vacuum line instead of hard plastic. Make sure is the right size and routed right for best fit and protection against heat. I would replace the egr valve. Get one at Rock Auto. Did you adjust the TPS as per spec? Make sure TBI spout is clean before reattaching hose.

Got a lot done on the Tahoe yesterday and today. Got the EGR cleaned up, pulled the TBI off the intake and got that all cleaned up and a new gasket. I'm thinking the code 32 I got after the last scan was because of the EGR solenoid. The nipple on it broke way to easy, so I think it was already cracked and leaking. So that's now replaced, as well as all the vac lines. I went with new hard plastic lines. Just got back from a 25 mile drive and fingers crossed no check engine light. While it's warm enough today I welded a leak in the exhaust pipe between the cat and muffler. So now that's quieted down. May take a longer drive tomorrow just to see how these fixes have worked out. So far am liking this rig. Thanks for the input guys.

Are you saying you replaced the egr? Just cleaned and reinstalled with new gasket? How did you reuse if the nipple for hose broke off? EGR that old I would have replaced anyways but is your call and money.
