Just finished my first 4l60e rebuild and went to put on the pan but she sits about an 8th is from being flush. Appears to be hanging up on the filter. Should I snug it down and send it or am I missing something? New pan but old one fits the same. In a rookie move, I tossed the filter when I was going through the teardown so I don't have original to reference. Filter pn is 74010ED. I'm heading to work right now but if anyone has any input, I'll be checking during breaks haha. Im off work next week and the trans has to go back in by then. I will be starting another thread for the transfer case soon as well, but that's a different beast. Thanks in advance!

There’s a deep pan and a shallow pan, as well as corresponding filters. The filter you have is for a deep pan. Either buy a deep pan for the deep filter or a shallow filter for a shallow pan. You can google for how to tell if your pan is shallow or deep.

Also make sure the filters pushed all the way in through the grommet. I'm assuming on the rebuild you replaced that grommet? It's a tough one. I had to use a blind hole bearing puller.

There's a designed interference fit between the pan and filter bottom. Make sure the magnet isnt in the way or portions of the wiring arent interfering. All deep pan filters for V8 applications are all black while the shallow pan v8 applications have the ribbed, silver colored thinner filters. The smaller displacement inline motors took a filter variant organic to them (diff from any V8 application filter).

Make sure the filter is fully installed in the pick up port in the pump and otherwise not being interfered with. Then install a bolt on each side and see if the pan will mate flush without having to force it beyond what is expected/normal.

It's a deep pan. Measures same as the old pan with the addition of a drain plug because why would anyone in their right mind omit that from their design specs. Bought the filter under the assumption that it was designed for the deep pan that came stock with the tahoe but as I've learned from this journey sometimes that particular square dont go in the same square hole lmao.

Is that referring to the seal that goes into the pump? If so, yeah. It has been replaced

@NickTransmissions how close would the mating surfaces be before applied force would be necessary? The new harness is pretty stiff so I can try seeing again if something needs moved but the filter looked pretty snug against the valve body.. those specific filters were the ones that had to do with like Colorado and hummers or something similar , correct? I'm still learning as i go.
