96 2dr Tahoe, rear tail gate won’t open

I replaced the door handle about 3 weeks ago, everything has been great. The window opens just fine, I come out today and open the glass window hatch, then try to open the tail gate, and it won’t open at all.
The handle is also like 1/8” in the open position too, like it’s being pulled out out to open it.

well, I can’t get the tail gate down to reach all the screws to take off the interior panel. How am I supposed to get this thing open?

no sorry i haven't dealt with any problems on the lower gate on mine. just the upper glass catch.

I have barn doors so I'm absolutely no help. I wonder if the linkage got bound up? What about pushing on it or pulling on it while trying to operate the handle? Or remote locks?

hmm simple enough i forgot sometimes ive actually got to shove my tailgate in sometimes before pulling the latch or it wont open
