96 Tahoe bottom gate

So my bottom tailgate is very sloppy. It will shut the has maybe 1/2-1"of travel. Any fixes that don't require new strikers? Top gate works fine.

Have you checked the latches to see that they're still tight in their spot? Not having heard of this issue before I don't know what else it could be. Are the strikers in good shape?
