97 tahoe backfires very loud and skips if it cranks

I have a 97 tahoe with 5.7 vortec that backfires when trying to start , if it starts it skips and only runs for a short time . Someone told us it was the spider injector. I bought a complete intake off a truck I know ran and ran great . We put it on today and it's still basically doing the same thing . Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated

Did it just start doing that or was it a gradual deterioration? Anything unusual happen when it started doing that?

It got worse over time . Nothing unusual, started skipping then backfiring, then it wouldn't start at all for about 2 weeks ( would start as soon as you turn key over for maybe 2 seconds ) . Yesterday it started and ran . Changed intake and spider and it runs about the same . It will start now but want idle unless you give it gas

Have you tried to adjust the timing? Do you have a CEL?

We have adjusted the timing . People around here are telling me it's a shorted MAF or the fuel pump

My buddy came to help but left his scanner at home . This all started because the Chevrolet dealership said it was the spider injector . I'm going to follow my buddy home and grab his scanner before they leave for the beach
