Now that im posting in the right location.
Ill break my other post into smaller pieces so its not so annoying to read.
What can cause a 97 tahoe to not shift into overdrive. I have all other gears and it shifts perfectly through those but it wont go into overdrive/4th. I do have p1345 code for the bad timing (i think thats the code) runs a little rough when you get moving and maf code. Truck supposedly has a rebuilt trans no paperwork but fluid is clean. Also only has 119,000 on it.

My scanner is a simple basic one can only read and clear the engine codes. The actron pocket scanner. I wrote down the 2 i had i forgot the actual code for the other one but its for the maf sensor fault. Previous owner had also taken the thermostat out so the truck wouldn't get over 110ish or barely above the 100 mark whatever thag id. Not sure if thats effecting anything. Ive put in a new thermostat, new tps, and cleaned the maf with maf cleaner. Havnt gotten to fire it back up yet as im going to do plugs wires cap and rotor and try to get the dist closer to where it should be.

Your like the guru of the forums thanks for any assistance you can give. Ive only owned 2 chevy trucks so i like to check forums like these. Used to buy nothing but ford and dodge but ive been finding chevy trucks for good prices. Ill have to check out that doc on my pc. Once i get everything straight ill have it scanned with a real scanner to pull more data and get back to you.

Well im not quite finished yet but taking a break since my garage heater i usually use isnt working today. Figured id post a quick update while i warm up (if i turn the tv on i wont go back down therelol). I think gm numbers the cylinders zig zag but id call them cyl 3 and 4. Anyway back wires on the drv side were ***** previous owner attempted to wrap electrical tape around the one boot that torn in half. The back on was smashed under the valve cover. So new plugs and wires will handle that.
Also the only code im pulling is p1345 the maf code didnt come back the first time i cleared it. Once im finished with the wires ill run a live stream of the data.

Ok so truck runs like a champ but im not sure but i might have an electrical issue messing some stuff up. I have no codes anymore however now that the truck is running strong it feels like the torque converter isnt letting go and almost like it thinks i have it manually in third. At a stop i really have to use the brakes to keep the truck from moving. In D it seems to shift extremely early through 1 2 and into third like its trying to rush it like i have it in third. Lastly not sure if the 4wd is tied into any of that but the 25a fuse blows seconds after i replace it. The scanner im using is capable of reading everything except telling me what gear the ecm thinks i want to be in.

So i need to replace the actuator doesnt blow the fuse with it unplugged. Was up underneath the truck outside where i can see better and i noticed the 2 plugs next to the shifter linkage looked wierd. I decided to unplug them and check for dmg and found out the person who decided to replace/rebuild the trans couldn't get the plugs back in all the way and decided to glue them in there....... it doesn't appear so those there was good connection anywhere and the larger of the 2 plugs has a damaged wire. I will now need to replace that and the plugs. Im not sure what those plugs control but could any of that be causing my transmission issues.

Ok so its the neutral safety switch. Can damaged wires or an improperly adjusted neutral safety switch cause my overdrive issue. From what i read on it its called the neutral safety switch but it is also the lever position switch. Since i now have to replace it regardless. Sorry for post bombs but im kinda getting pressured by the wife to get it done.
