neutral safety/backup light, selector position indicator wiring. on the 97 it does not actually report to the pcm any relevant data just whether to turn on reverse lights, safe to start and report to cluster what gear you selected. as you manually shift does it tell you what you shifted to? what was the color of the damaged wire?

The wire appears to be black or dark blue and the yellow wire next to it doesn't look to great either. On occasion when I put it in drive it would flicker between drive and 3rd no similar issues when selecting 1st or second.

ok repair the wiring as needed with the connector then check the indicator again. if the wiring was not the culprit in the flickering then the switch may not be mounted or is broken but again it should not effect actual tranny work. and by indication that the lights work otherwise your tranny should be getting power for the electronics inside as well. clear up the code faults and test again. even if the engine light does not come on there are some codes that will show up in a scan.

Ya I have to fix that regardless cause I can't start it now unless I jump the neutral signal. I didn't have any codes after the original repairs. However maybe you can shed some light on one thing I was told to check. I was told the brake pedal switch has a tcc signal, cruise control and an overdrive signal going through it. It was suggested that even tho my brake lights are working the other signals aren't making it through the switch or the wiring. Outside of that since the transmission was supposedly removed from the truck once I was going the check the main harness plug as I read it's easy to bend the prongs and not know it.

the switch has n.o and n.c circuits in it and they effect all those systems. it would be ideal to remove the switch from the pedal and leave it plugged in and while the battery is disconnected test the wire circuits based on color coding. if you want to try that let me know and i will get you the applicable diagrams.

With gm's history with brake switches and as cheap as they are I'll just toss in a new one and go from there. I haven't looked at it yet is there anything specific I should know about changing this one? Pretty simple job once you get to one on an 07 g6 but I've never looked at it on a tahoe.

I take back my previous comment. Gm engineers are sadistic. Anyway neutral safety switch is replaced along with the plugs and brake pedal switch is also fixed. Shifts feel better and I can come to a stop and stay there without needing to stand on the pedal. So I think the pedal switch helped just wasn't the fix.
