So i got my first car today, its a '99 GMC yukon and im not sure what type of lift to get, im trying to get it up 4 inches and i dont know whether to do a body lift or an entire suspension kit, after i lift it im looking to redo the exhaust and i want it to be deep and loud so i need a reference of a muffler that will do that (THAT IS AFFORDABLE for a 15 year old working as a shop boy), but anyways but i'm not sure if i should just cut off the tip at the muffler or get a tip put on. But those are the first two things i would like to do to it and im open to all suggestions on the stuff above or if anyone has some ideas for cool mods to put on it, id love to have the imput
-thanks

6" full suspension lift. there are a ton of threads on which one and why in the lifted section, check them out.

flowmaster 40 series muffler with whatever you want after it. duals, whatever. i have the 50 series and its quiet.

I say 6" or bigger....but your 14?

when I was 14 I couldn't afford a tank of gas for this monster. so:

I would imagine you are on a budget. A 3" body lift, the rule is you must clean and paint the fram and wheel wells though. crank the torsion bars 1-2" and a 1" block out back and run a 33x12.5 tire.

If you have money go with a full blown 6" differential drop (lift kit)

The problem is the costs really start to add up to do this right. bigger tires should have a set of lower gears installed and that costs as much as the lift kit alone. this will take time but looks like you have that.

Any questions feel free to ask.

BTW, this is a 6.5" lift crank to about 8" with 35s

Paint: wire brush the rust off the frame, then clean it with dish soap and a stiff bristle brush then paint it semigloss black. same thing on the wheel wells...I actually sprayed the wells on mine but careful with overspray. I attached a picture

A lift block or block is basically a spacer that goes in between the axle and the spring pack to either rasie or lower a vehicle depending on if the axle sits above or below the spring pack. In your case the axle is below the spring pack so placing a block in there will now lift the rear of the truck whatever the height of the block is. When doing this get new U bolts as well and don't get crap either. I learned the hard way on that being in a bind one night got some at autozone and they stretched and would never tighten up. I now run a grade eight set from truckspring.com that are oversized and are so much better.

I hope that helps.

alright so after i put the 1 inch block in the back and crank the torsion bars 2 inches that will give me 3 inches of lift in the back to go with the 3 inch body lift up frount?

by the way thank you so much for putting the time in to help explain things a little better, i have a passion for it but im still just learning these things.

I say max 2" crank and a 1" block. Right now if you measure the fender height of your truck it sits at least 1" lower in the front. many people including myself have the back sitting the same height or a tad lower than the front to give the appearance of a level truck or no block out back and get the bulldog or cali look where the front sits a good bit taller than the back. The picture a few posts up of my truck the front is one inch taller than the rear but it look perfectly level.

Cranking the torsion bars only lifts the front of the truck, not the back. So if it were me doing this crank the front up a bit and see if you like the look, if needed add a vlock to the back to bring it up if you like the raked look (back higher than the front)
