AC Compressor - $1200 - fair price?

Should I run it to failure? It pumps really cold, and I don't hear it inside. Will it just quit, or cost more because I shreded something?

Will I be out of comission on the road if it blows?

Just trying to figure out if I should just do it this weekend, or ride it till it's dead.. Looking for a few opinions..

run it till it goes if u want. if its cold why not. sometimes even new ones make a lil noise. they r hit or miss. it might even just be the clutch or tensioner. worst that can happen is compressor seizes and smokes the a/c belt.

I know that the route Im going is hit or miss but an ebay seller is selling a reman compressor(denso i believe) that comes with the drier,oil and orifice tube for 169 + shipping.All that they ask is that you get everything installed by a certified tech and they will honor their 1yr warranty.Im waiting on my package now.

Bit the bullet.. Paid the money.. Got a super cold AC blowing on me.. Well worth it. Thanks for all the replies letting me know I was in price range.

Need that AC after a day boating on the lake in 95+....

From what I've read, changing the compressor and related parts isn't that hard. Just make sure you get new oil in the compressor and oil up the o rings before assembling it all. I also read to leave the a/c belt off and let the shop that vacuums and refills put the belt on. I haven't done it myself, and maybe it's not as easy as it sounds, but might be worth a look at doing it that way and save some of the labor costs.
