Hey all, So my AC crapped out last summer and finally getting around to trying to fix it. I dropped it off at our trusted mechanic since I don't know much about AC work and figured it would be faster/easier (though not cheaper). Plus I have a million things to do at home...
It was out of refrigerant. He loaded it up and compressor was not kicking in. With 145k, From my records from previous owner, it seems like the compressor was never replaced.
Mechanic is recommending replacing compressor and condesnsor. He said (since I do most of the work on my own), that I could save about $1000 if I install the compressor/condensor myself.
I guess I was wondering what others thought about doing it myself and having them charge it, vs them doing everything. My concern was if there was an issue and system was not working after that, there could be finger pointing.
Has anyone done this work before? how long does it take? What do you recommend replacing (other parts like belt tensioner, hoses, etc)?
