Accel vs. MSD coil

I've seen some threads were people had installed MSD coils and was wondering why MSD vs. Accel?

Looking up the coils for my 99 from each, here are the specs:

Category......................................MSD 8231.............Accel 140024

Primary Resistance..........................0.5 ohms...............0.2 ohms
Secondary Resistance.....................6.5k ohms..............6.7k ohms
Turns ratio....................................80:1......................92:1
Maximum Voltage...........................40,000 volts............48,000 volts

It looks like the Accell has the MSD beat in 3 of 4 categories, any reason not to go with it?

Personal preference really, I'm sure either of them will outperform the OE stuff.

I agree but i am partial to msd seeing how when money is on the line just about every funny car and top fuel dragster has two MSD magneto assys on them. Also when I had a jacobs electronic ignition(later consumed by accel) sytem on a slant six accel caps and rotors never lasted beyond 4 months IMO.

I walked thru the pits a lot this year at the street car nationals in Vegas and noticed a lot more Mallory stuff then anything else ... it was interesting.

Accel is junk, IMHO and prior usages.

Yeah they are big there. I think the lower cost has been a factor not to mention the reliability.

i've read about several people having problems with accel parts, don't recall any with MSD.

though i do have to say i have a Accel cap on my camaro, and have yet to have to replace it. (came with the car)
