I am trying to get the rear hatch to open and need to get access to the following GM Service Bulletin 08-08-66-004 Procedure to Open Liftgate If Inoperative in Closed Position. It apparently states the procedure to open a non functioning liftgate. Help would be greatly appreciated!

If anyone else needs it:

#08-08-66-004: Procedure to Open Liftgate If Inoperative in Closed Position - Service Plug Available - (May 13, 2008)
Subject: Procedure to Open Liftgate If Inoperative in Closed Position — Service Plug Available
Models: 2007–2009 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV
2007–2009 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe
2007–2009 GMC Yukon, Yukon Denali, Yukon XL
________________________________________
If the liftgate were to become inoperative while the liftgate is in the closed position, use the following procedure to open the liftgate without damaging the interior trim panel. The service procedure includes drilling an access hole in the interior liftgate trim panel to release the latch. Service plugs are now available in the appropriate interior color to fill the hole.
Important: Do not remove the liftgate interior trim panel to release the latch. Do not replace the interior trim panel.

1. Locate the dimple on the trim panel.
2. Use a 1 1/8” hole saw to drill a hole through the trim panel.
3. Use a flat-bladed tool to push down on the bellcrank lever to unlock the liftgate.
4. Push the liftgate open.
5. Install a plug in the access hole.

This works like a charm! I had the whole project done in under 30 minutes. BTW, you can save a few bucks just going to some place like Lowes or Menards and buying a black hole plug instead of ordering what is probably an expensive part from GM. Of course if your interior is a different color you might have to go with the GM plug, unless you don't mind having a black plug in the bottom of the liftgate panel
A 1" hole saw will work just fine as well, and 1" hole plugs seem to be easier to find than 1 1/8". As long as you have a big enough hole to get a flat blade screwdriver in there and push on the latch lever you're good.
It just amazes me how poorly this whole thing is engineered. Putting that second lower screw down in the lift handle recess so it can't be reached with the tailgate closed was stupid, but not anywhere near as stupid as not providing for any kind of easily accessible manual release.
The nice part about having the hole in the panel now is that if I ever have a problem again, the liftgate is easily opened with a flat blade screwdriver.
Thanks GM, for a really f**ked up design.......
