Hi, I just installed a remote start in my new to me 2004 Tahoe Z71. The system is a Viper. I wired IGN1, IGN2 and ACC1 but the remote start only allows for an extra Ignition or an extra Accessory, not both.

I am reading conflicting info online if the 2nd accessory wire (brown) is required or not for remote starts. I know Ignition 2 is critical and it's being energized yet it seems some people say accessory 2 is not required and some say they dont normally connect it and its fine. Others say they add an extra relay and energize the wire just in case. The local audio shop told me they dont normally wire it.

The truck seems to run fine without it, I tested all the accessories I need like heated seats and heat blower, etc and they are all working without it.

I just dont want to find out down the road it causes issues or find something that doesnt work after i put it all away. The only reason I prefer not to add an extra relay is I have seen a lot of relays fail and its just one more thing to cause issues.

Does anyone know what the 2nd accessory wire (brown) actually is used for in the truck and if its actually needed?

Thanks

Sorry I won't be of any help for your issue but did you use an electrical.diagram to install your remote starter?

I have a remote starter I want to install but don't know what wires to connect to

Thanks

Old post, but brown wire isn't needed. At least it wasn't with my viper 5701 system.
