While in the midst of performing what should have been a standard brake job... New Pads, Rotors, and various other hardware...
I run into where the PO had the damn wheel lugs on so tight that my Impact did not have enough **** to loosen them, so I had to take it to a shop where they was nice enough to loosen and re torque them to spec at no cost to me... So far this is the cheapest thing done today...
Get back take off the Left rear tire. finding that taking off the caliper was a small job so I backed it off with a c clamp enough to clear. Pads fairly stuck so as expected... Then getting the caliper bracket off... all I could find was a 18mm 3/8 drive... so that was a small challenge due to the mass use of thread lock. FINALLY get that off... take off the rotor put on the new.. and get the pads in there and lined up, retainers in place... and find a seized slider... Off to the auto parts store. Get back get it mounted and notice that they didn't recommend replacement pins (assumed they came with) so trip 2 to auto parts store. So finally get that wheel "completed" so I though until I found the pins are not the same and came with no dust covers. old ones wont fit. another trip... Out of stock... try auto parts store #2 still no joy. so decided to order them online and install in a week on arrival... Now the pins freely turn so had to find a wrench narrow enough to tighten so had my dad step on the brake still turning so he turns the truck on to get the power assist... then it happens POP... pedal goes to the floor and where it looked to have been leaking from (the axle line) turns out to be the main line... Now its raining brake fluid...
So now I am shopping for a line kit to replace ALL the lines because if I dont then they will just pop when I least expect it. In my search I fond where the NHTSA is pressuring GM to recall 2000-2003 Full size trucks for this issue. Not going to wait for a recall as GM will fight saying that its maintenance issue. I agree within an extent however I have never had this kind of issue with my 1993 GMC Suburban. Maybe it is because the Yukon spent time in in Michigan? More than likely I suppose...
Either way I am replacing all of them may as well do hoses as well and just be the start of a full rolling resto LOL...
