So we're looking to get a replacement for my wife's 2007 Tahoe (LS RWD). We want 4WD and will be going with a Tahoe or a Suburban...2015+, possibly used. We've put 167k on her Tahoe in the 10+ years we've had it since purchasing new so we like to keep cars long term which means fixing things that break in a decade of use. So I've enjoyed not having a lot of maintenance to do replacing optional equipment found on and LTZ for example...don't get me wrong, I like nice features. I just don't want to pay extra for something that is prone to breaking and having to pay a ton to fix it.

So what features might I want to avoid that fall into this category?
Suspension options?
Headlight options?
Power liftgate?
????

Thanks in advance for your advice!

You have to decide if you want heated and cooled seats and if you want to fix them five or ten years from now. Same with Magnetic suspension, more expensive to maintain but offers a much nicer ride than plain shocks and struts. Consider an LT rather than LTZ but with the right diagnostic equipment (MDI/GDS software and laptop) fixing things is better than a car payment.

Dude. If the heated seats stop working in a decade then you're just left with regular seats that you had the joy of having heated/cooled for 10 years. No need to fix them at that point. The truck will run.

As for Magnetic suspension, they suck. Wish I could disable mine. Same with ACC. Not worth it.

But again, if those things stop working the car is fine. You'll just have to reset the code so it doesnt pop up on the dash.

Have you driven one without MRC? It’s equally awful but in a different way. The wallowing and floating is completely terrible.

I’ve seen complaints of the vibrating safety seat not working anymore or being intermittent. Same for lane keep assist. I’ve never had an issue but I can’t really speak for long term as it was 1yr and 42k miles.

Pretty much every vehicle nowadays (2015+) is coming with a plethora of technology and options, even as standard equipment. So if you’re going to upgrade to a newer ride you just need to suck it up and decide how much money you want to spend or how much debt you want to bite off. It’s just how it works today. Worry about it breaking later. Eventually everything quits.

I've driven both, yeah. I much prefer the softer ride. I came from a non MRC tahoe.

My lane departure is already malfunctioning but I'll get it fixed because 1) its under warranty (28K miles right now) and 2) I like the forward crash braking functionality. I couldnt care less about lane departure. Its more annoying than not IMO.

I'd certainly avoid the worthless OEM navigation sydtem, if at all possible. Google Maps is a much, much better system, and is standsrd on most smartphones.

Skip the 22” wheels. Lots of options are built into the trim packages. We went with the Denali and it been “ok”, but I dread taking our snow tires/ rims off and installing the 22’s on stock rubber. The ride is dramatically worse.

Also, I went Denali for the 6.2 and 8 speed trans. At 42k now and I’m less than thrilled with the trans. Not sure if the 5.3/6 speed is better. I do love the power of the 6.2 though. Looks like the 18’s get a 10 speed now.

I probably wouldn't get the Sun & Entertainment package again with my Tahoe. The video system is not all that great when using an SD card or USB drive and seems to lead to more frustration than anything. I'd rather go with an after market video system that would be built into the headrests instead of the drop down screen as that also impairs your rear view mirror vision.

Overall though, as far as reliability goes, there hasn't been anything on the truck that I would say to avoid as I've had pretty good luck so far in the 3 years and 42,000 miles of ownership.

Go for broke and get a loaded LTZ. Love mine. The 22s ride great - even lowered. Haven't had any warranty issues and if I do, well, that's what a warranty is for. Like others have said, eventually something will stop working - that's true on every vehicle ever made, part of ownership.
