Hello everyone
I have a 2017 Tahoe premiere
And I’m looking for input…
My previous ride was a
2013 Avalanche…loved the truck and had a range afm
Delete after reading so many
Problems about afm…my question is how many people
Have had trouble with 2017 Tahoes. I am driving Around town in 5th gear to keep it from
Having it kick in. Is this doing any harm? Or should I just get another range delete.
Thanks in advance for your advice

Bottom line, there are some risks associated with keeping AFM operational. It doesn't really matter how many owners are affected by an AFM failure, if you are one of the owners whose AFM failed. The question is....... Do you feel lucky?

I got 400,000 miles out my 07 with just tuning it out basically same deal as a range device disabling it but I still had two lifters collapse on me on multiple occasions so it’s a chance to take but I’d do it if you ain’t trying to spend money on a physical delete

Mine made it to 190K with regular maintenance until the #6 intake valve lifter collapsed. If you’re planning on keeping it over 150K miles, I’d plan on having to deal with the issue eventually. I’m installing a reman that I had built without the AFM components, and I had my computer reprogrammed without the DOD enabled.

I would never be without a Range as long as AFM is around. Short of a full delete, which is illegal in California.

I was under the impression an AFM delete is legal in California. I believe Jasper? offers a replacement engine with AFM deleted and a new tune and CARB EO.

unless you really want to drop a couple grand in it. just have it tuned, the range is just a gimmick (yes it works), but not like a proper tune which will also tune the transmission which is more prone to failure then the afm anyway.

Of all the options presented, I have done both on my 2017. Used a RANGE for 100k. It worked just fine. Then bought HP tuners and turned it off because I wanted to poke around more in depth.

I have a RANGE for sale of interested. PM me if you want more info.
