Was the sound much louder with the Cold Air Intake; this is the wifes car and I want to get best MPG & power for pulling the toys but don't want it too loud in the cab either. Thanks.

Most people comment on the sound under throttle and initial acceleration. My lady isn't a fan. I love it.

Sound is stock at speed or slow accel. Get on the gas and you know you have it there.

MPG/Performance is negligible however IMO unless you have it paired with a tune.

I would imagine under towing you will hear it more than without so if it is the ladies vehicle I would probably pass and do a drop in filter upgrade. You should get a little MPG improvement out of that.

Good points coffeyman!
My friend just drop in a KN CAI and a tune on his '15 Silverado. His engine is a 5.3 but it seems to have plenty of pickup now. I freaking love the sound it makes under acceleration paired with the exhaust he has.
There are some reports on the CAI if they really do anything other than let dirt in... I had a CAI on a MS3 for the about 4 years and had no issues and now my MS3 has over 190K on it.
I would get one for the '15 Denali but I have to get a tune first and of course the approval of the wife as she is the primary driver of the Denali. So far she is all in for the Tune not for speed but to take care of the pedal acceleration delay.

How are you guys accessing your air filters? I looked and there is a cross bar that runs across the top of my airbox (Denali so 6.2l). I've got a K&N filter that I want to drop in but can't seem to get the top of the filter box off without disassembling the air intake system or removing the bar and then reinstalling it afterwards. I haven't tried to remove the bar that is across the top of the box as this seems the easiest way to access the filter. Honestly I didn't want to muscle the lid too much as I didn't want to break anything. Any thoughts? Disassemble the intake system? Remove the bar? Eat my wheaties and muscle the lid around? Take it to the dealer and let them do it? I repeat this is NOT a cold air intake...it is just a drop in high flow air filter from K&N.

MortMan - I put new low beam bulbs in my XL last night and the airbox has to come out to get to the passenger bulbs. I pulled the bolt for that little crossbar out on the fender side and rotated it counter clockwise and more (not all) out of the way, then the airbox lid can be pushed back towards the engine and persuaded out from under the crossbar.

If you tow anything with some weight the cold air intake noises will drive you crazy...
At least that's how it was on my 05. Won't bother trying a CAI on my 2015 Yukon as it's our boat hauler.

Anyone have experience with the AFE intakes for the 5.3? I am a longtime BMW guy and AFE is pretty much the go to for them but sounds like most people here have just gone with K&N.

Take a look at the Airaid Jr. It uses the factory air box(which gets cold air already) but comes with a hi perf drop-in filter and an air tube to replace the factory tube between the air box and throttle body. That is where the restrictions are. They are silencers/baffles to keep engine noise down for the stock vehicles .

You can definitely hear a CAI at other than wide open throttle. Just hitting the cruise control + button makes it growl for a second until you have sped up enough to match the cruise.

I received the K&N intake kit for Christmas and LOVE it! Installed in roughly 45 minutes. It gives the truck a tad more giddy up and the sound is awesome! I haven't calculated the MPG yet, but if I keep stomping on the gas to hear that growl, it will certainly drop.
