2000 tahoe limited, tag is gone from alt. several amp outputs available, how can verify output i need?

My issue is that the voltmeter is the truck shows barely over 12V. Went to a parts house where they put a tester on the starting/charging system. First attempt read replace battery. Battery was replaced and system was read again, battery ok and output was 13.4 v Voltmeter in the truck said between 13-14 v. Three days later the voltmeter is again reading barely 12v. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like your alternator is bad if you have a scanner most of your more expensive scanners can read output voltage from your alternator you also can check at your battery with a digital volt meter but the old school method is to start the truck and then remove the negative terminal if the truck keeps on running then your alternator is good if it dies then it is bad my money says the engine will die...

There is two alts for your truck I think...The higher output alt being the one for a truck with all the power options like, both seats pwr with heat...sunroof, heated mirrors etc.

Call your local GM dealer and ask them. Give them your last 8 of your Vin # and they call tell you exactly came stock for your truck then you can decide if you want to go bigger amps. My guess with the Limited having the police package it has the the 140 amp's.
