I recently started hearing a ticking noise that sounds like it's coming from the alternator. I have around 105K miles. Is it about time it needs to be replaced? If so what should I expect to pay.

i would do at least some troubleshooting before put it out in the pasture
is it just ticking or you getting other symptoms IE what voltage is it kicken out
if you know how to use a volt meter then check the voltage at yer batt terminals if its puttin out 13.8 to 14.4 volts its probably fine noises in an engine compartment can be decieving

I have one that I pulled from my 10 suburban. If you are interested in it let me know. I have a 15 Yukon XL so no need for it in my end. It was pulled when I upgraded the alternator to a 350a due to audio requirements.

350 amp alternator what kinda system you runnin with that? what RPMs does it put out 350 amps and whats its idle output

3200rpm got you 350 amps, at idle it was 200amps. I had 4 JL 1000/1 powering 4 13w7s. I also had a 2 JL 300/4 powering focal mids and highs. Not to mention needing the power for the 4 headrest monitors and a 32" lcd mounted to drop down from the tailgate. Also the 3 extra batteries were being charged as well.

Now Mechman offers a 370a as well, I have to say their products are bulletproof. Once my warranty on the 15 XL I just bought runs out, I'll be doing another crazier setup in the new truck.

Thought it was a bearing on the idle pulley but turned out to be something in the alternator. Had a new one thrown in, $300 out the door
