First off let me stat if this is in the wrong catagory Pease move it for me.

My 03 yukon xl 2500 only shows a 145 amp alt. But my 05 yukon xl denali has a factory 160.

I would like to get a 160 amp alt for my 03 2500. I like parts with life time warranties, that I can easily return.

Soy question is can I cut off the 4 plug connector on my 03 since it only has 2 wires anyways. And solder on a 2 plug connector that's the 05 uses, and use a 160 amp alt?
The 160 amp alt is 150 at my local parts store with life time warranty.

just higher output alternator for an 03 instead of one for an 05
i put a 250 amp in my 02 i got it off amazon for 130 bucks and it was rock solid
allthough it didnt have as high of idle output as a DC power or a Mechman
a 250 amp DC power is like over 400 bucks but they put out 200 amps at idle most cheaper stock alternators dont put out that much current at idle

I doubt you can just swap plugs and have it work correctly. If you want an alternator you can return easily but a higher output i would suggest 2 choices. If there is an a&a autoparts store located near you check with them they usually have access to everything you could get off summitracing.com. they are usually a higher price but they will usually match summitracing's price. Second option is either get a used alternator somewhere or just use your current one and find a local audio shop. Most audio shops might not be able to step up an alternator but its a sure bet they know who can in your area. Or if your willing to forget the easily returned option just buy a high output alternator off summitracing.com.

i guess it all boils down to the question of why do you want a higher output alternator
if your planning on putting in a high wattage aftermarket stereo system like more then 1000 watts RMS
then youd need at least a 200 amp alternator or higher alternator
but you need to pay attention to what the alternators output is at engine idle speed alotta alternators say 250 amps but thats like at 3000 rpms but there only like 100 at idle this will be an issue if you have a high current stereo system becuase the vehicle itself uses 40 to 60 that only leaves you 40 amps leftover at idle wich converts to 560 watts now if you pull more current then whats available you basically destroy yer battery there is also a kit that costs about 3hundred that allows you to add a second alternator
id also recomend getting a higher quality battery a red top or kinetic preferably an AGM battery

I want duals alts on my 03 2500 with the 8.1 I have not found a dual alt kit.

But yes I'm doing a stereo in the 03 2500. I have seen dual and triple brackets for my 05 denali but I don't want a stereo in that truck. The system will be simple, 3500 watts rms

The system will probably pull 300 amps. I figured a 160 or a 200 amp alternator with life time warranty will work. I will be running a overdrive pulley on the alternator.

But over time I know the alternator will not like being over worked and playing catch up all the time. But hey its better than buying a mechman and it going bad on you. My last mechman last 1 mouth after warranty expired, I was pissed

Why dual alts when you can just have 1 big one? I love my excessive amperage alts.

I want a lift time warranty and when the alt goes bad I want to be able to go to my local parts store for a replacement. I don't wanna have to remove it and mail it back and pay to have it fixed

Excessive amperage has lifetime warranty on parts. But the thing is the alternator should never go bad.. It should last 20years+ when you buy a quality built custom alternator from excessive it's pretty much a one time thing lol. Lots of my friends all run excessive and we never had to send one back yet.
