I was wondering if a aftermarket alternator would allow my 2007 chevy avalanche to idle at a constant 14+ volts. I hate that it dips into the 12s all the time.

Thanks,

That's the power management by the computer, so no. An aftermarket alternator will only give you extra amperage.

Upgrade your wiring and get a bigger starter battery under the hood and perhaps a second battery first. If your volts still dip, then look into an alternator.

I do have a second battery. I have a kinetik 1400 in the back. It seems like every morning my truck does not want to start when I turn the ignition but when it finally starts I have 14 volts then just minutes later it goes into the 12s. I might just try a bigger battery up front

Also there has to be a way to bypass the stock computer to allow the battery to be charged at 14+ volts at all times

Mine does the same thing. I'm not sure why it does that. And I just put in a shuriken 80. It bothered me so much that I checked it with a dmm when I started the truck, 14.4v, then checked it when I got to the hardware store and it was 12.7v. I didn't play the radio or use any other electronics. I have Big 3 done and stock alt.

Let me know how it goes. The voltage seems a little better with a little time in the truck. I played my stereo full blast earlier and it maintained around 14v even with tons of bass.
