The rule of thumb is to not run spacers unless you have to. My advice would be to just keep watching craigslist, FB Marketplace, etc. until you get closer to what you really want.
I had 16" rims off an older Silverado on my 04 Tahoe Z71. There was VERY little clearance between the inside of the wheel and the calipers!
I don't think 15's would clear.
16 is as small as I would go.
I had 20" on when I bought it. Swapped to old Silverado 16's and got back into original specification rims from a 2010 Tahoe (17").
