I just ordered an Fi SSD12 to replace my shallow mount pioneer 12s(one blew last week). Whenever i have my music up pretty loud and the bass keeps hitting for a decent amount of time the amp shuts off. I need to turn the music either down or off to get it to go back on. I have yet to do my big 3 upgrade but plan on doing that very shortly. Ive got a red top optima and stock alternator, is there something i have to do in order for this to stop happening? I believe the wire feeding my amp is 4gauge. Any input is appreciated seeing how i dont know much about audio. I just want to get all these problems resolved before i get my new sub so i can just get it in and not have to worry about it. Also im running an 800w rms kenwood amp if that helps.

Is it possibly getting too hot? I had this same issue until I moved the amp (in a previous ride) to a place with better ventilation.

Could be getting hot or your puling the amps below a certain point. My old Kenwood 2500 would go into protection if the current went under 11 amps.

Also how do you like the Fi?

Ill have to move it and see if that helps or figure out a way to check the amperage while the systems crankin. Havent gotten the new sub yet. I ordered it i think last week and they said theres like a 30 day build time plus shipping time so its gonna be a little while till i get it.

If the box is trying to play a note under what it is tuned to that could also cause it. The amp may not be able to reproduce the extremely low frequencies. It's hard finding amps that will play under 20htz -well-.

No, sorry, the amp will play if you play below tuning frequency, BUT it won't if you have the sub-sonidc filter ON. Amps will play at 20hz...but why, and dang sure why ported. Woofer 'unloading' is another issue.

OP:
i suggest sitting in driveway at a stationary spot. Hammer the system and you check voltage AT the amp, if it drops below say 11.0v, into the 10's, there's your possible issue. Low voltage at the amp. OR, you have the amp playing below it's safe impedance load. Say amp does max power at 2 ohm, and you have it at 1/2 ohm or 1 ohm.
At least have a good 4 gauge, or depending on current draw, a 0 gauge power to amp. You need power to make power. Run out or too low of impedance, will shut amp down in protection mode...which turing system down, will reset it.

I was gonna say check your ohm load on your sub setup, and check what your amp is rated for

Thanks for all the input guys.... gonna try to go to an empty lot this weekend and try it out. Neighbors wont be too happy about me testing it at my house and the police station is only a minute away.

But Tracy, if its not getting the power it needs how can i fix it? Up the alternator and possibly wiring? And by that i mean if im not trying to run the amp past what its capable of.

big 3 upgrade.. heavier gauge wiring to amp a 1 farad cap with a voltage meter and a damn good ground a high amp alternator with good power at idle and high rpms. and a nice red top or yellow top battery, preferably 2 if running a large system.
