Amp wireing question

Can I wire my amp to the battery tap next to the alternator? Or would it be better to do a battery terminal mod? On the batt cables to trim off some of the rubber and remove the factory 8mm stud that goes to 3/8ths and get a couple of 3/8ths bolt about 1 1/2 long course thread with lock washer and nut. Insert it into the cleaned out hole with nut and washer all the way to the bolt head. Insert the 3/8 bolt into side post batt and tight it down. Then run the nut and washer up to the batt cable metal ring and put about 10 ft lbs or torque on both bolts. And put some dielectric grease on it. Done this on my other rig with side posts once. And helped with starting and easier to jump people if need be. But if I can tap into the battery tap that would be my best bet.

That is a good question? I never heard of someone wiring a power amp wire to the alternator, I would personally wire it to the battery because I don't know if in has any Diodes to eliminate back feed the alternator. Is your battery hard to get to or what makes you want to hook it onto the alternator. The alternator fluctuates voltage. This is a tough one personally I would tie it to the battery but I don't know on the alternator is there anyone else who can help because honestly I don't know??

Good point about the diodes. Didn't think about them. I just did the battery terminal mod instead. Was able to get 4 gauge and 150 amp fuse. Just installed my amp and have my sub properly hooked up. Just need to tuck wires. But being its 4 degrees f outside plastics don't like the cold. Thanks for the input

I'm wiring an 8" sub in the back of my Denali in the open space where it looks like there is suppose to be a speaker that houses the jack and tire iron to keep it looking stock and I'm hooking up four gauge wire too but we are at 0 degrees so Im waiting until summer to tackle that job . 8" won't bump the Denali but it will add a little bass to the passengers in the back watching movies since the front has an eight inch sub under the console.

Actually your vehicle may have a jumper post does have diodes so you cant use that for a post because from the post into the cab it has diodes and just goes straight to the battery keeping the internal electrical safe

you never want to wire a divice such as and amplifier directly to your alternator the kinda voltage that it produces is to irregular the battery actually takes care of that issue
you will probably destroy your amp ifyou hook it to the alternator
plus if it did work and your amp draws alotta current without that battery you would have some serious electrical issues

It has to be connected to the battery because when you have huge current draws from bass drops, your amp relies on the battery as a capacitor and your battery relies on your alternator to replenish it.

Actually your vehicle may have a jumper post lower and to the left of the battery and that is a good post to wire your power wire to run into the cab and wire it into your amp.

Yeah the "Battery" box to the bottom right of the alternator. Sorry if I wasn't more specific. Has a nut on there. Was going to hook it there but I put a bolt on the battery itself and ran the 4ga that way. Reason why I was asking because there is a direct line from the battery to that red "battery" box. Actually kind of glad I didn't. I ordered some 0 gauge wire today. Going to do the big 3 when it comes in and going to upgrade the factory wire from the alt to that battery box. And do a few cab to frame mounts. And batt to frame.

Battery only, if your worried about voltage, run a big capacitor

I always get the batteries that have both the side and top post on the same battery, that way it's easy to add anything I want straight to the battery! But I agree, run the amp straight to the battery!
