Today I noticed a very loud and annoying humming noise coming from the tiny little speaker in the roof right above where my head is when I'm driving. At least I assume it is a speaker. I have no idea the purpose of the speaker, how do I disconnect it or make this humming stop?

Thanks!

Like mentioned above, it's not a speaker. It's a temp sensor with a fan that draws cabin air temperature towards it to regulate the "auto" function of the climate control. Usually the fan is out of balance dut to being caked in dust. There are a few threads about how to clean them. I've done it myself with success. Heads up though, once you clean that one and the humming stops, you will discover you also have another sensor in the rear. :)

I will look into it, thanks!

No problem. Most of the time its just dust throwing the fan off balance and thus scraping into the housing but in my case, the resistor itself was hitting the fan blades and needed removal, cleaning and repair (bending the resistor out of the way of the fan).

I'd try a can of compressed air with a straw directed through the plastic "grille" first. if that doesn't fix it, you need to drop the headliner on the driver/front area to get that sensor out to asses it. This requires removal of the driver's visor and clip as well as the driver's door weatherstrip (partially to access) and possibly more up on the headliner as I cant remember... Wasnt too hard though.
