I have a 1999 Yukon with almost the exact same issues as in the other thread. I'll try to describe my problem in more detail. When I turn the ignition on, the "gear indicator" light (which tells you if you're in park, drive, etc), will more often than not be very weak or be almost flashing. If I wait awhile with the key on without starting, it may get brighter and become solid, it may not. If it is bright and solid when I start the car, and it stays solid, I will have full first gear and OD and all my gauges will work properly. If it's still flashing or dim, I may or may not having gauges, but I will not have full 1st or OD. Another odd thing (this may point to the 1-2 shift solenoid), is that if I shift from D to 3, the gear indicator light will stay normal. If I shift from 3 - 2, the light goes out and my gauges will quit working. Oddly, if I put the shifter into 1st, it will go into first, but when I shift into 2nd, it will shift pretty hard (I'm not doing this with the RPMs too high by any means, I know how to drive a stick), so I don't do that very often.
I've been dealing with this for the past couple of years, and it hasn't really been an issue. It's just been really slow to take off and uses more gas, but it never got worse or left me stranded. Was pretty dependable. Until recently. I move and hauled one of those little covered uhaul trailers. I don't know if the not having full first gear caused my throttle position sensor to go out due to having so much more load than normal, but it runs like crap now. It shakes horribly when idling and barely moves when put in gear. This happened towards the end of my move when hauling the trailer, it just kept losing power until it got to the point where it is now. It shakes so bad that I'm scared to drive it anywhere. I've been riding my motorcycle to work every day and it's getting cold and so I'm about to give up. If I can't figure this out cheap, and quick, and soon, I'm just going to put an ad in craigslist to see if anybody wants to trade me for something that runs and drives. I'd take an 82 ****** if it ran better than my Yukon. Due to a recent divorce and child support, I'm only getting about $200/week at my $13/hour job, so I can't afford to go out and buy various parts for $100 a piece until I fix it. I knows the parts that will fix it aren't cheap, but I can't afford a lot of guessing games. The people from the auto parts stores of course want me to replace every sensor and fuse they can get out of me. I'm not convinced this is the answer. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I've had this truck for almost 10 years and am not ready to give up on it, as it's only just now letting me down.
