Hey All,

Like most guys with late 90's OBS Tahoes, I've got yet another spider injector question.
I bought a '99 Tahoe 2-door this year from a great fellow in Texas. He took very good care of it. It runs and drives really nicely. However, I'm curious if it has already had the spider injector upgrade, and the previous owner wasn't sure. He had all his work done in a shop, and as long as it ran well when it was done, I don't think he asked too many questions as to why. A couple of the maintenance records were related to the fuel system, but his notes were not very complete.

I've used the search tool on this forum and came up with some potential answers to my question, but they were a little cryptic, mentioning 'T' shaped features and/or 'little holes' under the electrical connector. One of the posts probably would have answered my question, but I think it was missing photos.

The question I had was how to tell if my Tahoe already has the improved MFI injectors WITHOUT tearing off the upper manifold. One of the posts I found during my forum search mentioned some features under the big electrical connector that can tell the story, and it seemed to reference some photos, but no photos were still in the post.

Does anyone have a foolproof method (other than tearing it apart) to determine from the outside if the spider injectors have been converted yet?

Thanks folks!

Hey man, I can definitely understand the wise ass comment... that's also my sense of humor. Gotta respect it. :)

So, my truck runs fine for the most part, and mileage is what I'd expect from this vehicle, which is primarily between 14 and 15 mph. At times there's a slight lope at low idle... kind of a minor rough idle vibration. Other times there's a little hesitation when taking off from a light, but once it goes, it GOES.
My reason for asking is now purely preventative. My truck has only about 119,000 miles on the ticker. From reading many posts, I've learned it's only a matter of time until the poppets or the fuel pressure regulator give up, and I'll be wishing I had upgraded them earlier. I've got a couple weeks off of work here soon, and it might be a good opportunity to tear into the injectors and upgrade them.
This isn't an excuse to dump money into the truck unnecessarily, but just thinking it would be good to do while I have the opportunity. Might improve efficiency and help the mileage as a nice benefit.

Just need to know if there's a way to check which injectors are currently in the 'hoe without tearing it down.

Thanks!

unknown at this time.
only vortecs l31 5.7l v-8's and l35 4.3l v-6's that have cpi or central point injection. the quality of fuel used is the biggest factor on how long the original design lasts. however if you have reached say 150k with no issues then you can probably make it further with injector maintenance.

Hey Folks,
I managed to answer my own question.
Had just pulled the air intake off the throttle on my way to the fuel injection connector to get a photo for SunlitComet, and decided to peek down into the throttle body butterfly to see if I could see anything.
With a flashlight, and looking at an angle, it was very easy to see that this Tahoe already has the improved MPFI fuel injection setup, and needless to say I'm quite glad to see this. This is probably the reason that this truck already runs fairly well overall. The previous owner had some hazy notes related to fuel injection scribbled out, but did not mention this improvement specifically.

Just want to thank you gents for tossing in your ideas and help.
Take it easy!
