...but maybe with a twist...

so i have(had?) 2 jl 12w3v2 subs connected to a fosgate 360a2 amp for about 15 years now, and the subs finally blew their coils.

the subs were in a ported box which replaced one of my third row seats, and the subs have 6 ohm coils (i know, long story...) so there is a total impedance of 6 ohms to the amp, so i'm probably only putting 200-ish watts to the subs total.

since the subs are done, now it's time to change things up a bit - but i've been out of the game so to speak for the last 15 years.

first things first - i like bass in a ported box.

as far as recommendations, that's where i'd like to tap into the community knowledge base. i've looked at going with 2 jl 12w3v3-4 subs and putting them on a jl hd750/1, but would there be any benefit or "better bass" from something like a dc1.2k hooked up to a dc level4 12, or even a single 15"?

i guess to clarify a bit more, would you rather go with 2 12's running ~750 watts, or a single sub (12 or 15) running ~1200 watts?

If you are looking for bass, you will get more out put from 2 subs pushing 750 than 1 pushing 1200. The 2 subs has more space being pushed. The benefits of 1 sub pushing that much power is that 1 sub (who RMS should be rated at 1200 or close) will be pushed better. When you under power a sub, it doesnt give out its true excursion, and doesnt perform the way its supposed to. For example, an expensive, accurate sub may require a high power like that and its performance would be impacted by under powering. Unless the sub is asking for that power, your output and all will be much better with more subs and less power on each. Not to mention, they are not working as hard.

Only time I rather go with 1 sub is due to space/weight issues. But driving a truck, you definitely dont care about weight nor space.

thanks for the replies! and sorry for my delayed response - just had our third baby and went off the grid for a while.

i'm thinking i might go with a single sub and higher powered amp for now, especially since that would be a cheaper route. i was looking at the fi 12's (the ssd12 in particular) coupled to a dc audio 1.2k amp in a ported box. since the rest of the system is stock (for the foreseeable future) i think that will suffice.

i'll build a new box as well - and from what i've seen the consensus is to tune the port to 33hz, with sub facing up and port facing back.

Fi is nice. Right now im running 2 sundown sa 12s on an incriminator audio 20.1. Its in place of one of the 3rd row seats. 2 12s will be louder than 1 15 because of cone area. Unless you get a beast 15 and at least triple the power. But then you have to upgrade battery and wire .

I have a DC audio level 2 12" (https://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_88146_DC-Audio-Level-2-12-m2-D4.html) and a 1.25cuft box off ebay designed to to fot behind the 3rd row seat (http://www.ebay.com/itm/CHEVROLET-C...ash=item41a86b8977:g:S-MAAOSw8RJXCTuu&vxp=mtr)

Im running a phantom 5 channel (same as this : https://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_40253_NVX-JAD900.5.html) so its getting 440 watts rms (sub 600watts rms).

it actually sounds dam good and its all wrapped in a small package!

can we get pics of your sub box im thinking about ditching my slim sealed box and picking up that same ported box
