Any non-buffeting Tahoes out there?

I have a new to me 2010 Tahoe LT 128k miles and I've had to have the alignment done three times due to vibrations and reading this thread I now know it's not the rims and tires like I thought (new rims and tires) I was told its the gears in the rear end but I don't know
Don’t get too excited. This thread is for 2015+, suvs before then didn’t suffer from the booming/buffeting issue.



My 17 burb Premier w/ 22s doesn’t have any issues. What’s funny is all of our Grand Cherokees (2012, 14, 15 & 2017) have a booming issue on certain pavements and at certain times. It’s almost comical at this point that my burb doesn’t do it. But I’m completely fine with that.

FWIW, I’ve had a 2016 Tahoe loaner on 18s that did have the booming and buffeting issue. It also had a rough idle but I suppose that’s getting off topic.

How ironic...our 15 XL booms and buffets while my 11 Overland has been perfect for 6yrs. lol curious...why are you considering an 18 denali...not happy with burb?

I just feel kind of bored with the burb. I want nicer interior finishes and the 6.2/10speed. In one year I’ve done almost 40k miles, I usually get bored fast. Even if it’s just a color change.

One of my friends has a 2016 LTZ with 40,000 miles. I just rode 500 miles in it. No weird noise or buffeting. They have not had one problem with it. Oil changes and a set of tires. They will buy another one , once this one hits 75,000 miles.

1 year into our new to us suburban and no buffeting.50k miles ex rental
No buffeting when we had the 18’s wheels with shot stock tires and no buffeting with our new dealer take off 22’’ on stock dialect tires.
A bit shaky idle which improves a bit when using mid grade fuel. Key word a bit.

I finally drove (rented) a 2016 Suburban that had what I'd call a buffeting noise. It was annoying. I found it to be caused by the engine lugging when the trans would go into 6th gear at around 40mph. The engine was only running at about 1,000-1,100 rpm. Similar to shifting a manual trans into overdrive gear too early.

Do those that experience it only notice when the engine is at low rpm? If so, it would explain why some don't experience it, as in my 2015 Tahoe, it had the max tow with 3.43 gears, no lugging of the engine, no buffeting sound. My 2018 has the 6.2L 10 spd. No weird buffeting either. I've also rented a few other 2015+ Tahoes and Escalades with no buffeting noise.

2017 LT with tow. No issues.

I believe the buffeting noise many people have experienced is different from the shaking and droning we all experienced with cylinder deactivation mode v4 kicks in.
After some people trying to figure it out some consensus came that it is something structural. somehow related to engineering fof some sheet metal, maybe roof I cant remember.

Yes primarily when it switches to V4 mode. I have the Max tow package as well

I forgot about that thread. I believe one of the Tahoe’s that had buffeting so bad it had to be repurchased, was a 2018. Other than that 2018 (which sounds like an earlier one), I haven’t heard of any other 2018’s with the issue.
