Any tips to restore plastic side trim?

The trim on my doors have some white "paint" spots that cant seem to be remove by washing it, I'm guessing its related to the sun burning it. Any tips to restore it like this Video that peanut butter will "fix it"
Tips? Opinions?

I myself haven't tried it but I have watched videos on using a heat gun to restore plastic trim.

Yea I seen a lot of videos that the heat gun works and I would try it some were that isn't to noticeable to see if its true or no but problem is that I don't own a heat gun or any one that I know. I guess ill give butter a go this weekend and will post up the results here.
