Bottom line is in about a year Ill be in the market for something newer. Timing wise it makes sense, Im going to HAVE to have something newer and more dependable because by the time its paid off I have a daughter that will be turning 16 and she will need something.

I drive a 09' Silverado at work and its nice, just a basic 2wd ext cab though. I can see myself really enjoying a 4door Z71 for myself on the road hunting (2 hours away) and fishing during the summer. (About an hour away). Every weekend Im usually on the road fishing or hunting with few exceptions. The ol Hoe is killing me on gas of course. Im getting about 10-11.5 highway right now with the 342 gears and 33's. I need to regear it but boy the smoothness and power of the newer trucks sure is nice. Other than that nothing about a newer vehicle really excites me...the interiors are ok on the higher end silverados and sierras but not super exciting to me either.

Ive even been looking at H2s and H3s (really like the Alpha H3T but they are hard to find). So has anyone else upgraded and kept their old GMT 400? does it get driven much? Worse the extra expense and insurance?

My 99 currently has 65K on the motor and 10 on the tranny but 230K overall. Tons of new parts of course but to be honest Im getting to the point I want to be able to just do the things I enjoy and NOT work on a vehicle so much.

Any thoughts or experiences welcome!

I think of new trucks often but change my mind when I look at the prices of a new truck. Having no car payment is nice and the maintenance is cheap compared to the alternative. My last oil change was $17 versus the $90 it used to cost on my Denali. On the new vehicles they make you use synthetic oil which meets a spec or it voids the warranty.

I sold my 2013 Yukon Denali last year and bought a 1998 Yukon and have not looked back.

Maybe you could sell yours and buy a different version that does not have bad gearing and big tires.

I'm actually in the opposite situation. I bought my basicly stock 99 2 door to replace my built 85 GMC Shortbed 4x4 that I was driving daily. 3 mpg, 4.10 gears, and a built 3 speed trans dont make for a good dd. I love the truck for what it is, a toy. And I love my Tahoe for what it is, a good clean dd. If I were you, I'd buy something newer and stock for a dd. Then if you really do love your hoe as much as you say, keep it as well. Put it to use fishing and driving on weekends or in the snow. Or even when you just feel like driving it for a day. I still fire up my truck and tear around town just for the hell of it sometimes. And with your daughter turning 16 soon, mt advice there would be do as my parents did for me. Buy her something old and basic with liabilty only insurance. In my case it was an 84 el camino. Loved that car. If she takes care of it and respects it throughout highschool, then help her get something nicer when she moves out. And if you keep the hoe, maybe she could use it on occasion for special events at school. I would have fallen in love on the spot if a girl in my highschool pulled up to a football game in a lifted tahoe. Anyway, there's my advice. Do as you wish haha.

I have thought of a newer rig also, but car payments, higher insurance and higher registration make me think twice. I'm driving the 00 Limited as a daily. At 15mpg city it isn't too bad, but more MPG's would be nicer. My biggest complaints about the Tahoe are the center console, and the lumbar support air bag has popped. I have actually contemplated buying a totaled newer denali or escalade to swap the seats and parts of the interior over to the 2000 and then selling the rest.

if I was a betting man I would say your lumbars aren't busted. they are held on by hog rings that have a tendency to pull right out. a interior shop can roll up the cover and reattach them for you

I just got rid of a 2009 GMC sierra and bought this 99 2 wheel drive tahoe.
I get 17 MPG though and the Sierra gave me 11. It was lifted on 33's
