everything works just fine on my truck except that my pump is whinning very loud! i asked a friend/mechanic about it and he told me to just change the pump (if i could find it) there is a minor difference between changing the pump and changing the assembly its around 250.00+ differance. considering i still got the 02 sensor giving me a code (possibly my cats) i need to save $ where i can. hopefully this works as it should.

When my fuel level gets down to a certain point it whines like crazy and it's been doing this for well over a year. I'm just dreading having to drop the tank.

You guys do know that it starts whining when gas gets low because it's not submerged at that point. These pumps are cooled & lubricated (as crappy as the fuel is) by the fuel in the tank. Constantly running your tank at or under 1/4 will drastically shorten the pumps life.

had my 2002 z71pump changed out under warranty back in 2006 with 45000 miles on it, (the truck was purchased used as a gm certified vehicle that came with a warranty) when i picked up my truck after the repair the service writer informed me that my new ac delco pump comes with a lifetime parts and labor warranty and have since taken advantage of it just a few years ago as it went out again at 80,000 miles so considering the failure rate of these things you might consider getting a quote from the dealer and check on the warranty it might be your best deal

I did just the pump its rather easy... the basket drops off the sending unit, you unplug the pump, cut the hose (the new pump comes with a hose), remove the pump, and install the new.... It is very easy.

just to tune in since i have had to drop my tank three times within a month due to the previous owners errors. the fuel level sensor was faulted when he put the replacement pump in (junk yard part that was not good) :emotions122:

there is probably a write up on the procedure on here somewhere
the first time i had two people and the tank was almost empty to not to bad but after that i had to do it alone. got it down to less than three hours in and out not rushing

you are going to need to make sure you have these tools with you since you wont be at home
-5/16 nut driver or flat head screwdriver for the fill neck hoses
-needle nose pliers for the fuel lines at the front on the tank
-13mm socket
-15mm socket with extension for tank hanger
-also two jacks for easy drop
and just a fyi the tank drops rear to front and goes in front to rear

Is there a particular pump brand that everyone recommends? Believe it or not the pump in my truck is the original with 230k on it (I'm the 2nd owner, and I bought it off a family member)! The only issue I'm having is the check valve is sticking, and giving me long crank times sometimes. If I remember to cycle the key it fires right up. Otherwise it'***** and miss...
