You can jack from the bottom of the pumpkin to place the jackstands. My floor jack has a rubber pad on top and the diff has a flat spot along the bottom for the jack.

6 ton floor jacks (for height and stability) on the axle tubes was plenty to get the gas tank out on my GMT800:

Yes, this. You’ll want the height of the jack stands as well as the stability. The wheel ramps are safer but don’t give the height you want to make it easier.

AWD trucks roll no mater what gear they’re in. Chock the hell out of both front wheels.
