Ok...

My tahoe was on a wreck in november last year. I didnt get the truck out of the shop until early March. Before the accident the ac was great. After getting the truck back I was told I needed freon because they busted open the line for the compressor. SO!!!! the a'c they used shot a ton of green gooey stuff for leaks. Well no leaks and he didn't flush the green shyt out..

So..replace the dryer and switch because green stuff was leaking out of it (DAMN)

Decide to flush the system at my job and vacuum the system also. Replace the dryer and we thought the orifice tube was missing (firewall). Well after reading all above we now know the tube is in the front. But before that on yesterday afternoon we try to see if we could put more freon in (only 2 cans and a can of freon/oil was in the system) it would not take. Pressure was about 70 and other stuff. Well saw that there still some more green shyt in my system.

So i'm on my way to grab a new tube, condenser, and compressor. Now i'm about to drop 600 on parts after I spent 200 on parts and labor already. All because of this green shyt!

OH...my condenser was never damage from the wreck even though it was a front end accident

Sidebar...the system is not getting cool enough. When water is sprayed on the condenser the system get colder! Why and what?

I also am in need of A/C work :( unfortunately, my compressor is junk, and the lines to the rear compressor all leak. Has anyone done this as a noob, or is it better left to those with more knowledge. As a possible half-assed fix i was told it would be possible to braize the rear lines and replace the compressor essentially eliminating the rear. Any ideas on how much is actually saved or sacrificed? Usually there's only one other passenger, but i don't want to regret that decision down the road either. Any advice is appreciated!!

unknown at this time.
Delock, if you can not provide a clean free flowing system it won't work well so suspect there still is an existing problem with your existing parts which it sound like you are replacing. I would never leak sealers. In case I was not clear before orifice location depends on whether your have a rear a/c or not.

Dub02, What rear compressor are you talking about. I am always in favor of having full functionality if not more but not less.

perhaps i meant to say condensor? for the rear A/C... I kinda want to fix the whole thing too, but at the same time some air's better than no air. Cost would be the determining factor. i don't want to stick a grand in A/C that only gets used 3 or 4 months outta the year.

I had to replace almost everything when my hose started leaking becasue everything was corroded and not was not able to loosen anything. It all started with the main hose under the hood, when I was doing this I purchased the hose off ebay for 90 bucks and the accumulator/drier and orfice from R&S Strauss. When he went to put it in, the stock hose was frozen/corroded to the condensor and Y-Pipe which both needed replacing. About week later the lines that run fron to rear were leaking, I replaced them with high pressure hoses from Autocooling solutions, saved about 50 bucks over factory lines but you save a ton in labor. There is no need to remove the running boards and no chance of damaging the heater lines. When we went to do this the main lines were corroded/frozen onto to the rear evaporator, needed to buy a new one as well as expansion valve.

Ebay has a whole kit minus the lines that run front to rear. Wish I knew that before....... Im into the system for 1500 and my air started to blow warm on friday. Maybe know the compressor???? Not sure.......Good luck with yours but if its got high miles you may want to buy the complete kit off ebay. You will not find it cheaper anywhere!

Stresst, Perhaps you have a leak somewhere.:)

No shit Sherlock! ( Only kidding! lol)

Where its leaking is the problem. My mechanic was under the car checking connections, checked connections under the hood and behind the grill. Came up with nothing. Gonna bring it back to him tuesday hopefully he will have more time. I really wasnt expecting first class service @ 5:50pm on a friday on a long weekend. Realisticaly only so much he can do.......
