It's a sealed JL 10W3v3-4 - 500 watts that hides in the console. Obviously I don't know audio, but need more bass than the 03' Bose is giving. I have a 500 watt amp. They say it replaces the factory sub/amp. I like the concelled/stock look, but wonder if it will be enough of a difference?

What kind of music do you listen to? We have so much room in these trucks, I'd do a single sealed 10 or 12 which could easily be tucked into the side or behind the 3rd row. I have a fairly large box for my single 12 but still fit 4 33" tires in the back quite often. Hidden enclosure under the backseat would sound good too.

I have to admit - the more I read threads about subwoofer installs in these trucks, the more confused and perplexed I get. That thread Omar listed illustrated some issues with the Stealthbox install regarding the rear vents. The Q-Logic underseat box does not let the seats fold all the way down. Seems the rear panel is the best "stealth" install option, but even then you have to relocate your jack and stuff. The stock Bose sub is 5.5", so maybe it can be replaced with a JL 6" sub...but that's not going to provide a whole lot of boom for the guys looking to thump.

Dammit, this is really making my head spin as far as what to do about a sub install.

I don't personally have one, but I have put quite a few of them in in my installer days. You will notice a huge improvement in sound quality over the stock Bose sub. The install on this box is not hard, but it is incredibly time consuming and a LOT of disassembly. Be prepared to cut a lot of plastic out of the inside of the console and drill two holes in the transmission hump for the mounting points on the box. You will also need to drill out the rivets that hold the factory sub in place on the console.

The best advice I give for someone putting one of these in is to follow the directions EXACTLY because if the holes are drilled in the wrong spot on the transmission hump the console will not go back in correctly. Also make sure that you cut the inner plastic out correctly with an airsaw (or something similar) because again the console will not go in correctly if you miss something.

The first time I did one of these it was almost four straight hours of cussing and throwing stuff because it can be very frustrating to put in, but once you get it in there it's well worth it.

The rear air vent issue is only on the Silverado/Sierra. If you were to put a sub in the rear quarter area of an 03-06 some modification would need to be done to the panel for the best sound because the "grill" in the back is not perforated since they moved the factory sub to the console. You would not hear hardly any difference if you replaced the Bose sub with a JL six. It's possible there would be depth issues with that also.

build your own enclosure behind 2nd row IMHO.
I'm trying to avoid that, since the dogs ride back there. Not a big deal normally, but I'd like something I don't have to remove when we take them up to Maine, or every other week when it my turn to drive the guys to hockey. (3 guys with full gear, and I'm a goalie no less. Would rather not have the subs just back there.)

Thanks for that input. I have a JL Stealthbox in my Grand Cherokee and it is indeed a great addition. your note about the rear vent issue makes me think that the JL is going to be the way to go.

I'd love to replace my entire center console with a fiberglass enclosure that runs all the way to the back edge of the middle row seats with 3 tens in it and a spot for a ps3 and cd changer, but just don't have the damn time for that crap anymore...anyone wanna make me one? LOL...

I wonder if that jl box would work well for added midbass to an existing system instead of adding additional midbass to the doors...?!?! hmmm...very pricey i'm sure instead of just putting a second midbass in the door though...hmmm...
