Anyone try to program modules lately?

So I have a clone/china made Tech2 and an MDI2 that I bought a few years ago, to do my own diagnostics and pass-through programming when needed. At the time I was basically told by the ACDelco TDS people that the Tech2 wasn't supported (they were still doing some kind of bypass on demand at the time which they don't do anymore) so I picked up the MDI as well to use...

I successfully programmed with it in the past and it went into the toolbox drawer until now (even though the system only recognized it as a MDI, NOT an MDI2... still worked).

Logged into the ACDelco TDS site in anticipation of probably needing to program a new power window switch that's on it's way, and they very prominently warn against using clone tools at the top of their page.

So now I'm worried about even trying... not sure how they could tell if I do or not.

Anyone try to use one of their knockoff tools lately?

if you plug in the mdi and it is able to update with the bosch software then you are probably ok, you need to do that 1st anyway otherwise it won't work period.
the message above is what you "could" run into, if you get the message then stop at that point, then if need be grab a 3rd party device instead.
I used my clone mdi 2-3 months ago and had no problems

also you gotta kinda wonder how many people are out there working under the assumption that there mdi is a genuine one and it's not? there has to be some leeway in there as far getting your account locked, one would assume it's not a automatic thing

I did in November. Saw the same messages.

I think I updated the software off of Bosch's website first, before logging on.

Some time back, I was under the mistaken impression that I had bought an MDI2. What I received was an MDI in MDI2 clothes.

There's a video on Youtube from 11 months ago of a guy using the Tech-2 again to program modules.

if it's just the little rocker switch for the window. those don't need programed. I've swapped mine. if it's the module, probably.

instead of different the clone stuff, I always try to bring up the OBDxpro GT to flash gm modules. heard about it from a post on here. got one and it's solid, no worries about if gm will accept it or not. for the price I'm happy I got it.

Yeah, plugged in the new driver's window switch module and nothing works.

Dug my chinesium MDI-not-a-2 out and it's not going through it's startup sequence correctly and my computer doesn't seem to "see" it though the USB connection anymore...

So I guess I'm off to order one of those Tripp lite adapters to try it on my Tech2.

I really hate modern vehicles sometimes.

ever since 2007 it was gm's bright idea to reduce wiring by adding little chips everywhere, the new T2's can go down to 1 wire (in theory) because of the new software, however it makes it highly susceptible to interference, so a even basic wire repair could cause problems in the whole system so they now say to replace the affected harness instead.

No luck yet. Following the video previously posted, I can get to the point where I can select what kind of module I want to program, but when it tries to connect to the vehicle and get data from the module, I get the error E4399: There was an error retrieving the controller data!

Which, when I google, could be pretty much anything.

My Tech2 alone currently can see data from the Passenger switch (command up and down, etc). It can not communicate with the driver's switch. That's expected, it's a new unit and that's why I'm doing this.

Techline Connect cannot read data from either module. I tested to program/get data for the passenger switch because it was the safest one I felt like trying. The Tech2 does it's little wiggly line like it's trying to communicate, I can hear something clicking in the dash when it connects/disconnects like always, but then the error pops up.

What's so frustrating is it could be so many things.

Is it my laptop? The Tripplite USB-to-Serial adapter? Is it because my clone Tech2 is garbage? Is it because they can see it's a clone and they're blocking it? Is it something simple like my voltage dropping too low?

I've tried reinstalling the software, getting the Tripplite drivers from their website, running techline in compatibility mode, as admin, not as admin, etc.

Anyway. I'm done for today. I've got the truck on a charger to top off everything and I'll give it a shot again tomorrow. If I can't figure it out tomorrow, I'm just calling the dealer for an appt.

I wonder if it only works for the older stuff? In that video he's doing a '99 model..
He mentions the Tech2 maybe better for the older class 2 stuff, which he says is '05 and down..

Hope you get it running still... Otherwise maybe consider that OBDx j91z was talking about..
(I'd do anything to avoid the dealer!!!)

After buying a Tech2, Autosync, and HPTuners.. what's one more device? :banghead:
You got me thinking about a Ford Excursion in my future..
