I haven't had a chance to go through the link that oldsalt posted. I'm betting the design is pretty similar. I'm sure I can manage without instructions, but if you don't mind posting the 97 repair docs, that'd be great. It never hurts to read the manual :)

Oh and good luck with your Thermostat issues Danny. With any luck, our shit will be solved by tomorrow morning, haha.

This ******' truck is trying to throw everything it can at me all at once. So I purchased a new thermostat, haven't even installed it yet or messed with anything under the hood yet. I went to fire it up to move it to a prime location to start working on it, and now I have an SES light and what looks like coolant (not 100% sure) splashed all over the vapor canister, near the upper radiator hose. It looks like it came from the radiator, but it was dark when I moved the truck. Now I have to figure out what code its throwing. Damn, this thing is really trying my patience. But I still love it.

Grimm, If it is coolant and there isn't any around the water pump, check to see if your radiator is cracked where the upper hose attaches. I have replaced 2 because of this.

This wouldn't necessarily have anything to do with your overheating or the check engine code.

Thanks for the link sunlit!

Unfortunately, the blower motor will have wait, since my coolant issues take priority. But I'll be sure to look through that document.

Oldsalt, it looks like my radiator may be cracked or leaking. I had trouble starting the truck, trying to move it again to an ideal workspace, almost as if I was running a little lean, but when I finally did get it started, the SES light went off and things were a little smoother. I installed the thermostat a little while before posting this (it's about 5:40am right now and I have to be at work in 3 hours...and haven't slept yet..:emotions122:). Anyhow, the old thermostat was clearly junk and the new one seems to have helped a little, but its still running hot, but not necessarily overheating. It sounds as though there's air in my cooling system, which can't be good at all. Still no signs of coolant in my oil, so I still have my optimism. I guess the next step is replacing the hoses, radiator, flushing the system, and pouring fresh coolant in there. Unless anyone has any other ideas?

Never figured out what code it was throwing. I don't have a scanner in my possession now. But the SES light has stayed off since then (no it didn't burn out as it still lights up for the bulb test prior to starting the car). I ended up flushing out the entire cooling system last night. The upper radiator return plenum had a bunch of old, nasty coolant buildup, which cause the hose to have a bad seal. Ended up cleaning that and the hose, flushing everything out, and pouring in fresh new Dex-Cool. That in conjunction with the new thermostat seems to have cured my over-heating problems. Oil is still nice and clean and the truck hasn't overheated since then, even when sitting in traffic, which makes me happy. So that's good to go now. Just gotta work on the blower motor for the HVAC system now...... and eventually, when money permits, a built transmission.

^ Just an FYI... last winter i replaced my blower motor thinking it was shot.I installed the new BM and i still had nothing,grrrr... I did some research and talked to a few GM nuts, and found out/was told it could just be my "fan speed control switch".I guess its a fairly commen failure.I then got a new switch, installed it and everything worked as it should.

This could be or not be your issue, just wanted to give a heads up.
