Automatic braking - anyone have it?

If you look at the order guide, what you describe above is correct. In fact, the 2016 order guide, RPO UGN ( Automatic Collision Preparation inc Intelligent Brake Assist and Collision Avoidance Braking) is only available on the Denali (and is part of the Y66 Adaptive Cruise Control Option).

However, on the Service Parts Identification sticker in the glove box of my 2016 SLT, both Y66 and UGN (along with UEU, Forward Collision Alert) are listed as being on my vehicle.

So in my mind, I should have front braking regardless if cruise is engaged or not. If a Denali and an SLT have the same options, they should function the same way.

Having said all of this, I have only experienced automatic braking while cruise control is engaged. Also, the Forward Collision Alert has only worked when cruise control is engaged.
I have not had a collision alert or had the green vehicle ahead indicator turn amber when cruise control was off. This I believe is a malfunction within my vehicle.

I have been in contact with GMC Customer Support and so far they have been unable, or unwilling to give me a straight answer on how the system is supposed to work. I think the delay is, the people that deal directly with the public do not have the technical knowledge to answer questions like this. I am hoping, that eventually they will put me in contact with a technical person. At lest I have an open case number and a phone number that I can call to insist on an answer.

I had a very nonproductive phone call with GMC Customer Support yesterday.
I again went over my issue as previously described and asked to speak to someone that could address this technical problem.
I was basically told two things.
  1. There was no one in Customer Support that could discuss this technically and GMC Engineering did not discuss things with customers.
  2. If I was dissatisfied with the answers I have been receiving from the dealer I bought the vehicle from, I was free to take my vehicle to another dealer.
Last evening I found a website that had the Service Manual System Description and Operation for ACC, FCA and FAB.
I found the descriptions similar to that in the owner's manual, meaning, there was nothing that tied the operation of FCA and FAB to having the cruise control activated.
So after one big circle jerk, I am back at square one.

As of this morning I can confirm that I do have automatic braking on my 2016 Yukon XL Denali.

I was driving in my neighborhood at about 20-25mph (ACC off), and the car in front of me that I was following braked hard while trying to navigate a simple left turn. They slowly veered to the left, I saw what was happening and veered to the right to go around them. I guess I didn’t get over enough to satisfy my Denali and I got the flashing red light on the HUD, vibrating seat, and a very significant jerk as the brakes were activated.

There was never really any fear of a crash, but my first thought was “Oh. I guess I do have automatic braking. I should probably update that thread on the forum.”

I am still (not very successfully) pursuing this Forward Automatic Braking (FAB) issue.
To briefly recap my issue, the FAB on my 2016 Yukon XL SLT only works when the Adaptive Cruise Control is engaged, but not if it is disengaged.
After the holidays, I decided to contact GMC Customer support again using a different tactic.
Instead of trying to explain my concerns and end up asking several questions, I sent a simple message with a single question. "Is Forward Automatic Braking on my vehicle supposed to work when the Adaptive Cruise Control is disengaged".
This simple question got a simple answer (paraphrased) "yes".
Simple answer, but still a complex problem.
I went back to the dealer today with a copy of the GMC Email response.
After going through the salesman, the service writer, and the shop foreman, I finally got them to agree to drive my vehicle.
The technician that drove the vehicle seemed sharp and understood my concern.
I told him that not only was the FAB not working when the ACC is disengaged but the green, vehicle ahead indicator on the dash, never turned amber when I got close to the vehicle ahead of me.
He quickly dispelled that issue by getting on the tail of an SUV in front of us and got the indicator to turn amber. The problem with this is, he was less than 10 feet from his bumper before the light turned amber, AND the FAB did NOT apply the brakes.
He tried this two more times with the same results.
We went back to the dealership and he took my vehicle back to the shop area to see if any fault codes were thrown.
From there, things went downhill.
He came back about 20 minutes later and said no codes showed up and if the system was malfunctioning, I would get a message on the driver information center.
He agreed that the FAB did not apply the brakes when he drove it, but since the computer did not show a fault, the dealership's position was, the system must be working OK.
So I guess the discrepancy that he witnessed, has no bearing since the computer says there is no problem.
I don't know what my next step will be, but I'm not going to let this die.

i have 2 2016 yukon denalis both have braked multable times on me without acc off but i do have the distance selector set to far if that is off i believe the braking will not work

I have set the alert timing to far, medium and near and still no automatic braking.

You need to drive a different truck and see if it operates differently, video it and show it to the dealer

No necessary but wehn happened is not funny, and happen few times wehn I do text and drive.
I don't do anymore because I was close to hit someone.

The owners manual states that for the Forward Automatic Braking (FAB) to work, the Forward Collision Alert (FCA) system must detect a vehicle ahead and display the little green car symbol on the driver's display. The manual also states that the green indicator will turn amber if following a vehicle too closely.
It does not define what "Too closely" really is.
I am curious to know from others that have the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) , FAB and FCA systems on their vehicles, at approximately what distance does the green indicator turn amber, when you approach a vehicle in front of you? My question applies only to when the ACC is not engaged (like in city type driving).
The reason for my question is with my Yukon, while performing a test, I have to be less (much less) that a car length from the vehicle in front of me before I can get it to turn amber.
On a previous vehicle, a 2014 Acadia Denali, whenever I got within 2 car lengths of the vehicle in front of me, the indicator turned amber. Granted, the Acadia did not have the Forward Braking or Adaptive Cruise Control, but it did have Forward Collision Alert.
Thanks for any replies.
