I knew one day this feature would annoy me!!!! I push the button to open the rear hatch it goes half way up then stops and lowers itself. There is nothing hooked on or blocking it. I tried the interior remote and rear button and all with the same result. I need access to the trunk, any ideas.

What year is it? Sounds like it may be worn out struts. The tailgate has a obstruction sensor that will cause it to reverse if it encounters an obstruction. The extra weight of the tailgate with worn struts may fool the sensor. Try assisting it by hand to remove some of the weight and see if it goes up. If the struts are worn it will also drop a few inches from full up if you let go of it and then slowly close.

Turn it off with the switch inside the truck and open it by hand. If it doesn't stay open, you need to replace the lift assist struts. That's what happened on mine. The left strut went out and the motor would do exactly what yours is doing.
